about this corner

Why little.rest exists

A domain that's a pun, a small act of going the other way, and a quiet idea.

origin

It started with a pun

little.rest is a pun. Read aloud, it's a "little.rest" — take a small break; and .rest happens to be the top-level domain it lives on. The day the domain was registered, its sentence was already finished: this is a website about resting.

The starting thought was simple. Finding a breathing exercise these days means accepting a wall of cookie banners, creating an account, watching two screens of ads — then learning the core feature is a seven-day free trial. Resting, it turns out, requires logging in first.

So this site points the other way: no sign-up, no ads, no notifications. Open, use, leave.

The domain says a "little rest" — and also: only a little lives here, just enough for a breather.

what's here

A toolkit, not a platform

A small wellness toolkit that lives in your browser: breathing patterns, a meditation timer, a sleep calculator, a brain dump — each made for the moments that need a little quiet.

No points, no streaks, no leaderboards. Rest doesn't need KPIs.

how it was built

A pavilion, not a building

This project began with a box of domains. People who collect domains are a bit like people who collect seeds — most are simply kept, waiting for the day their purpose becomes clear. little.rest was a special one: other domains are an address; this one reads as a sentence.

So on this plot, the plan was a pavilion, not a building. A small one, holding only a few things: a square for breathing, a stretch of rain, a few slips of paper for a busy mind. Passers-by who are tired may come in and sit a while — nothing is charged, no one is asked for a name, no membership is required.

And a pavilion's best quality: once built, it needs no keeper. If you'd like to carry it with you, you can — install it into your phone, and it follows you, even up a mountain with no signal.

The keeper recognises regulars by their footsteps — but that memory lives entirely on your own device: how many visits, how long between. Stored locally, never sent anywhere.

A website can be like a pavilion, not a shop: it doesn't ask where you come from.
The internet should keep one corner where you can simply rest. Open, use, leave — no one asks who you are.

That's the whole ambition.

disclaimer

These tools suit everyday relaxation and self-regulation for healthy people, and are not medical advice. If you're living with persistent anxiety, insomnia or physical symptoms, please see a professional — that isn't a problem a website can solve. Admitting it is its own kind of honesty.
